Win a Souvenir from our Upcoming Trip to Chicago!

Sears Tower

The contest is now over and we have a WINNER!!! Thank you to all who entered.

I am pleased that our trip to Chicago, IL is only two weeks away.  We are heading there for a convention Thursday through Sunday, but decided to head out the weekend before and play in Chicago for a few days. Gene has been to Chicago for work, and I have both been there to watch the Angels play the White Sox, but we’ve never been to Chicago together. We are looking forward to doing some sightseeing.

Chicago ArtThus I’m going to share some of the activities that we are planning on doing while in “The Windy City”.  However, I also wanted to share the fun with you, my readers. Details on the raffle and how to win a Chicago, IL souvenir are below. As soon as we return home I am going to do several posts about our trip but until then, here are some other activities we are planning on doing in the state of Illinois.

Chicago Architecture River Cruise

Architecture River CruiseEnjoy the best vantage point to admire the distinct city skyline and admire world-famous architecture as you cruise down the historic Chicago River. You will discover all three branches of the Chicago River with your guide, an expert in architecture.

 Sears / Willis Tower Skydeck

Sears Tower 2The Willis Tower claims to be the second-tallest building in the United States and the14th-tallest in the world. More than one million people visit its observation deck each year, making it one of Chicago’s most popular tourist destinations. The structure, previously known as the Sears Tower, was renamed in 2009 by the Willis Group as part of its lease on a portion of the tower’s space. I am not from Chicago, but to me it will always be the Sears Tower.

Navy Pier

Navy PierThe Navy Pier currently encompasses more than fifty acres of parks, gardens, shops, restaurants, family attractions and exhibition facilities and is the top leisure destination in the Midwest, drawing nearly nine million visitors annually. It is one of the most visited attractions in the entire Midwestern United States and is Chicago’s number one tourist attraction. I think it will be much fun to walk around and enjoy a meal or two on the pier.

Wrigley Field

wrigley2I have actually been to Wrigley Field while doing a tour, but Gene has not. I thought it might be fun to catch a game. I wish they were playing the Rockies or an interleague game with the Angels. Sadly they are not, but they are playing the Cardinals so I may go and cheer them on, lol. Actually it would be fun to see Joe Maddon as the Cubs manager.

Chicago Harbor Lighthouse

Chicago Harbor LighthouseStanding at the end of the northern break water protecting the Chicago Harbor, to the east of Navy Pier and the mouth of the Chicago River, this is still an active and automated lighthouse. It was constructed in 1893 for the World’s Columbian Exposition and moved to its present site in 1919. It is actually a little distance from the Navy Pier, but you can see it, and they do have tours. We will have to look into that.

The Art Institute of Chicago

Chicago Art MuseumI am a huge Cluade Monet fan and can’t wait to visit this museum.  It features a collection of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist art in its permanent collection. Its holdings also include American art, Old Masters, European and American decorative arts, Asian art, Islamic art, Ancient classical, Egyptian art, modern and contemporary art, as well as architecture, industrial and graphic design. The last time I was in the city, the museum had loaned all of the impressionist art to another art museum so I wasn’t able to see it. Can’t wait to see it this trip.

Shedd Aquarium

Shedd AquariumThis aquarium contains 32,000 animals and was for some time the largest indoor aquarium in the world with 5,000,000 gallons of water. Shedd Aquarium was the first inland aquarium with a permanent saltwater fish collection.  In all, the aquarium contains 1500 species including fish, marine mammals, birds, snakes, amphibians, and insects. I really hope we get to see the aquarium as it sounds incredible.
