3 Greek Islands for Different Likes and Tastes – Beautiful Greece

We were recently working on travel plans for our 20th anniversary and had narrowed it down to a short list of four. You can read my post here, but long story short, we are heading to Vienna, Prague, and Munich for two weeks. However, Greece was high on our short list and still on our bucket list. Thus when I found this article, I just had to share. Hope to make it there someday soon.  Credit for article is listed below.

Situated at the intersection between Europe, Asia, and Africa, Greece is world renowned for its rich history, culture and its affiliation with the sea. Having over 6,000 different islands, 227 of which are inhabited, each island is unique, meaning that there is an island out there for all the different preferences. Here is a list of 3 very different islands to visit this summer.

Skiathos is a small island in the Northwest Aegean Sea and part of the Sporades, a small group of islands. One of the unique features of the island is its lush green forests right next to its beautiful beaches. There are a variety of beaches to choose from, with Koukounaries being the most iconic one and it even has a neighbouring nudist beach called Little Banana Beach which is said to be the best nudist beach in Greece. The island is a wonderful place for couples as the town is full of chique little bars that sell great cocktails. Skiathos can be reached by boats from the mainland or by plane.

Part of the Ionian Islands group, Zakynthos is an island suitable for families and youngsters looking to have fun. The beautiful waters offer a variety of activities, such as water sports and boat trips that take you to the best spots around the island. It is also home to the famous Navagio Beach, with the iconic shipwreck that makes for some of the most beautiful and well know photos of the Greek Islands. Zakynthos is also famous for being the nesting ground of the loggerhead turtles, commonly referred to as the Caretta Caretta. Due to all the conservation efforts to protect this vulnerable species, volunteering is a popular activity on the island. Zakynthos can be reached by boat from the mainland and by plane, making it easily accessible from abroad

The island group the Cyclades is home to some of the most popular party islands in Greece, including Ios. The hilly island is one of the cheapest of all the party islands, making it a popular destination for youngsters and even drawing is a huge number of Australians every year. Two of the best beaches, Mylopotas and Manganari offer a variety of water sports activities and Mylopotas is also home to Far Out Beach Club, with constant partying day and night. The main town is situated at the top of the island and is filled with narrow winding streets packed with bars and clubs. Ios has no airport and is only accessible by boat.

Whether you are looking for a romantic getaway, a fun holiday with the family or vibrant nightlife and partying, there is a Greek island that is perfect for you. So, what are you waiting for?
